ODE TO A LATIN TEACHER

Marylin

Now Latin is a dead language,
At least thatís what I'm told.
But just don't tell that to Ginny -
I wouldn't be so bold!

With her stories of firsthand travel,
She makes Latin come alive.
Old Pompeii becomes very real and near,
I can just hear the ancilla jive!

I can see Caecilius leave for work
Past Cerberus in the street lying.
And Metella ordering the household chores
With Grumio and Clemens complying.

Now Ginny's patience is legendary.
Never a cross word from her lips.
Only praise and good things do we hear
Even when we make some slips.

Thank you to each auxilium
And homework helpers, too.
So many people helping
In thanking I'm sure to miss a few.

So thank you Ginny, Barbara, Jane
And all of you behind the scene
Your work is so appreciated
In helping our old minds stay keen.
