  • 1. What is Achilles angry about? What does his anger show about his sense of self worth and what it's based on? How does Agamemnon exacerbate the problem? What might Agamemnon have done differently? Why does he insist on his decision? What really caused the disruption of harmony? Whose side would you have taken, Achilles' or Agamemnon' s, and why?

    2. What does Nestor represent in The Iliad? What is the purpose of introducing him?

    3. “Those were his words, and he slammed the scepter, Studded with gold, to the ground and sat down.” (260-1) What is the significance of Achilles' action for the group?

    4. Characterize Agamemnon’s leadership style. In what ways is he an effective leader? In what ways is he deficient? Is he a committe chairman or more and how does or should it change his leadership style?
