Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title.   They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only  one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new challenger.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

Good Luck !!

Fiction, the author is alive, I think.

___   ___   ___   ___   --   ___   A   ___   ___   ___   ___

My f2f group is reading this for February and I'm enjoying it, though I probably would not have selected it on my own.  I should have read it nine years ago.

Just ran into a small world, if you stretch a point.  I'm also reading As Always, Julia and believe it or not, there is sort of a far-fetched connection between the two books.  And while our puzzle does include eating, it is certainly not a cook-book.  (Do beware of red herrings)

Well I guess I have to rethink the last word then. No B and the S not where I thought it would be.

Is there a D?

Well shucks, Frybabe, I thought for sure that "S" would just give it away.

There is no D.

Oh, think Stegner, DeVoto, Ambrose, Guthrie

Am adding a leg to the "P" --  that's like two letters for the price of one  --  sort of   ;D

S  ___   ___   N   --   T   A   ___   ___   E  R

The author finds the news -- [six of his books will be available on e-readers] -- good, but ironic, musing,  --

Quote
"I use every bit of my skill  and imagination to take my readers hundreds of years into the past -- and now they'll visit those old days through the screen of an electronic gizmo."

WINNER!!    WINNER!!   WINNER!!

Congratulations JoanK

Yes, it is Sign-Talker by James Alexander Thom, who has written a lot of books about the historical West.  I had never heard of it, but one in my f2f group praised it and that's what we're reading now.  It's a novel about George Drouillard, son of a French father and a Shawnee mother, who accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition as a hunter and interpreter.  He spoke several indian languages and could also understand and make himself understood in other ways.

OK, over to you, Pat.

I remember reading that book on the Metro going to work on a boiling Summer day. Everyone else on the train was sweating, but I had to put the book away because I was shivering with cold.
