Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title.   They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only  one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new challenger.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

Good Luck !!

Nope, no G.

WINNER!  WINNER!  WINNER!

Yes, Grisham's April release of a novel involving a baseball player.

Washington Post says:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/books/john-grishams-calico-joe/2012/04/06/gIQAafbe0S_story.html

John Grisham’s legal thrillers are dense and hefty, full of twists and turns and tension. His latest novel, “Calico Joe,” is not like that at all. It’s a sweet, simple story, a fable really. And like all fables, it has a moral: Good can come out of evil; it’s never too late to confess your sins and seek forgiveness.

It was your "O" that tipped me off, JoanK - Joe.   One of my boys was talking about it, how unlike Grisham's other novels- wondering if Calico Joe was based on an actual character,  like Shoeless Joe in Field of Dreams.  A good one, Jan

Here's a new one - funny, French, fiction-

WINNER WINNER WINNER!

Well, you did, Pedln! ;D - and after only two days.  JoanK was on her way with the S and the A...the tip off was "French" - and so was the title.

Did you think it sounded promising - or a little too irreverent?  I found this - for those who haven't heard anything about this new novel yet -

...a novel that is equal parts art history and irreverent comedy.

Moore's latest novel, his 13th, is "Sacré Bleu: A Comedy d'Art," in which a baker and wannabe artist teams up with the bohemian Henri Toulouse-Lautrec to solve the mystery of Vincent van Gogh's death. Their search leads them to the mysterious Colorman, whose fabulous pigment just might be literally magic. Also making appearances: Monet, Manet, Renoir, Seurat and other great French Impressionist painters. It's an art-historical exploration wrapped up in an amusement-park ride through the dance halls, bakeries and brothels of late 19th-century Paris.

The seed of the story, Moore says, was the audacious notion of writing a book about the color blue. That led to in-depth research on the history of painting -- and of paint.

Is this the opening line?

"Although he would not remember it, when Lucien was born, the first thing ... as he peeked over the edge of the world was (his mother's bottom)."

It does sound interesting, JOansP&K, and I'm glad to know my library has it.

I just finished reading this -- my library had it and it was on my TBR list, so I'm thinking I must have learned about it here or else read a review.  Fiction ---  from Scandinavia.   Five words.

I know, I know, JoanK.  That must have been the chapter with Toulouse L'Autrec.  The book is kind of edgy, not really suitable for our gang -  but the plot grabs me anyway.

Pedln - I sense there are some T's - a whole bunch of them?.

Wow is right - that is a sensational plot, Jane.  Thanks for the link!  I suppose I should wait for final word from Pedln for guessing  that title before putting up a new puzzle.  Who knows, maybe she has something else in mind - with the same letters already provided. :D  Back later...

It looks like we have a winner!    :D

Congratulations JoanP.

I haven't had a chance to look at Jane's link yet, but the book is fascinating, as you try to figure out what is going on, and how all the characters connect.  The conclusion is believable, and one that you would never guess.

Apparently this is the first in a series about the protagonist Nina Borg, a Red Cross nurse. It will be interesting to pursue future titles, as she is quite developed, characterwise, in this book, with her own background and problems.
