Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO
The rules are simple:
The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.
The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title. They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.
At the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.
The winner becomes the new challenger.
Ex:
Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T __ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
What is it?
Good Luck !!

I can't guess. Am leaving town tomorrow and will be leaving my laptop in DC while we're all at a four-day commencement in Princeton, NJ.

We have a winner!
Well,
JoanP
, you have a great imagination.
Tales of Terror and Mystery
it is. The book is one of many written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that are not Sherlock Holmes related. I realized that I have not read (years and years ago) all of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries when I discovered that he wrote 56 short stories altogether and four stories that are classified as full novels. So, I downloaded the whole lot plus several of his non-Sherlock books of short stories. Wikipedia has a list catagorized by genre. Here is a list of his writings from the Sherlock Holmes Society which is not separated out except for fiction/non-fiction:

A good one, Fry!
O I just can't resist - especially when everyone else has done the work and guessed most of the letters!
OK, here's one - by a popular British author -

Two many letters?... Shall I provide a few to get the juices flowing?
How about a strong consonant - a "W"?

Yes, an "S" - are you ready for another clue? There is a connection between this and an author much discussed here lately...

Have you also read Darwin's Children. I have both on my TBR pile. That doggone pile keeps getting bigger for some strange reason.

JoanK, it has to do with evolution, genetics and retroviruses. There is a sequel,
Darwin's Children
.

Another Dickens? We sure are celebrating his birthday year in style. Hope you will plan to join in the discussion of Great Expectations beginning on July 1.
Dombey and Son is my guess.

We seem to have lost the heading for this discussion - it used to contain the titles already guessed. If we already had this one, please excuse -
This is Fiction - fairly new -

I stopped putting up the heading because the list was so long it was unmanageable to look through. If people want it back, I'll put it back.
