Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title.   They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only  one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new challenger.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

Good Luck !!

The Jackpot!  I won the Jackpot!  I get  to be Vanna White for the next day or so.  This is non-fiction, I am quite certain.

Too hard?  Too many letters?  I added another S- and yes, it is non fiction.

Winner!  Winner!  Winner!

A little bit of advertising for an upcoming discussion in September.  Have your heard of it?  It's new, very popular in the Washington Metro area - not suprising...

Yes, I have heard of it; it sounds very interesting.  If we mean to discuss it, we should get the word out, because several people have mentioned wanting to read it.  I think it's on the NYT bestseller list.

Oh dear I came in to tell you that Pat H is still without power after the recent windstorms that ripped through the DC area on Friday night.  I almost volunteered to take over her puzzle for you but realize that I have no idea what that Title might be.

Let's give the utility men another day to restore her power.  if they haven't done so by tomorrow morning I'll volunteer to start a new one.   We miss you Pat.  Stay cool wherever you are.

I would have posted about PatH, but my computer was down. it's working at the minute, but I don't know how long. It goes through spells when it works one day and not the next

I called PatH, thinking she could tell me what the title was, and I could carry on. What with all rthats beeen going on, she absolutely couldn't remember what the title was. Please forgive her -- she's been sitting in the dark for days in 100 degree weather -- sdhe had other things to think about.

I'm exaggerating: she's fine. She has flashlights (she can read!) and a battery operated radio. A neighbor with electricity invites her over in the hot part of the day, and she can sleep in the basement rec room, which is cooler. Her gas stove works.

But probably best if someone else does a word. I'd volunteer, but I d

Hi.  Later that evening my flashlight search turned up the note I had made of the title, but I'm still powerless--anticipated restoration July 6, 11pm, so still out of commmission (I'm using a library computer now, but it's hard to grt a turn.)  Anyway, now I have a title for next time.  Thanks, JoanP.

OK, since we lost a few days there with power outages and all - and tomorrow being a holiday and all, I'll give you both of those letters, Ts and Rs.  Let's see who sees it first now -

Fiction, not new...but topical - in a way

AhA!  So fitting the WINNER is you, PatH!  So you've got your power back at last!  Super!  Air conditionning for the coming week.    You are all ready with the new title then?

My son is home from London, where the temps have been 60's and 70's - he's overwhelmed by the heat - and humidity.

On Saturday he will be best man in a wedding - to be held outdoors - in a park.  As best man, he lobbied for the groomsmen to wear searsucker suits, but the bride insisted on tuxedo's and cravats. I just read in the Washington Post that the prediction is 103 degrees for Saturday.   Will is going to cook in that outfit.  The reception will be held indoors, so if he makes it through the wedding, at least he'll cool off...oh, and it's an afternoon wedding!
