Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess the title or author (if it's a challenge on an author's name)  and post their answer.  If they can, the solve the entire answer. If not, they  can also suggest one of the title words or  a letter to fill in one of the blanks. One guess per "day" (between appearances of the Challenger) for each contestant.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved, the Challenger will then add only  one of the suggested letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

List of Winners and Book Titles or Authors:

1. Pat H for Rabbit Run  Post #27
2. Ginny for Hound of the Baskervilles Post #45
3. Joan P for The Winter of our Discontent # 51

OK, I'll answer the first question first this evening.

Yes, Mippy, the first word is THE

THE   _ _ _ _   _ _   _ _

Another clue - this story strains all credibility, yet by the end, many readers become believers.

Mippy, I don't remember being overly excited about The Life of PI, but it was interesting/odd enough to read the whole way through.

Okay now to the quiz. Yes, the third word is THE. It's a little hard to avoid that word sometimes.  ;D

But, Frybabe, I think there is a letter missing in the 6th word.

I feel so guilty claiming this because I googled on the words "of the life of" and came up with the answer -- Frederick Douglass.

Off to bed now, new puzzle up in the morning.

Gum, Frederick Douglass was a former slave, abolitionist, friend of/advisor to Abraham Lincoln, and women's rights advocate. One of the great men of the nineteenth century in America.

Not very fair to those of you down under, Gum, but Douglass is well known to all us Americans.  That autobiography is well worth reading; it's short, and I think it's available online.

Now that I see the answer, I could kick myself for not seeing it before.

Frederick Douglasses autobiography is an excellant book. I've been urging anyone who was interested in slavery in the US to read it for years, but had completely forgotten it's name.

Oh dear me, do I answer the question or provide the letter?

You're good, Mippy!  It does fit, but unfortunately America is not the second word.  But that was a great guess, especially for this weekend.
