BLANKO

Welcome to our newest brain teaser

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, not both.  One letter is supplied.  More information may be given, but isn't required.

Example:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess--the title (or author) if they can, or a letter.  One guess between appearances of the Challenger for each contestant.

At  the end of the day, or more often if the Challenger wants, the Challenger will add one or more of the letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.  (Note that the original supplied letter might also appear elsewhere.)

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

Nope! No more W's.

This is one of the books I originally bought for Mom. She had an interest in local/regional Indian tribes.

JoanP is IT

The full title of the book is Into the American Woods: Negotiations on the Pennsylvania Frontier. It was written by Lucy Maynard Salmon Professor of History James Hart Merrell. Merrell is one of the leading scholars of early American history. As stated earlier his focus is on Native Americans and their interactions with the early colonists. This book covers 1630 to about 1760. As the title suggests, this book is about the negotiators, translators, and go-betweens that helped secure peace, land, hunting rights, trade, etc. between the colonists and the Native Americans until the French and Indian War broke out in 1754. The book won Merrell the Bancroft Prize (his second) in 2000.

It does, JoanK - I checked my library, it is available...

So I'm the IT girl...will try something a bit different...this is an author's name.  The work is Fiction, I think...based on history.

One of each - they should help  - this is an author of a prize-winning book last year. One of the major ones awarded each year.

Hilary Mantel would fit, but I don't know what book she got an award for in 2011. Wolf Hall was 2009 or 2010. BTW, has anyone picked up her sequel just released in May, Bring Up the Bodies?

WINNER!

You got it, Frybabe! I misspoke when I thought Hilary Mantel won the Booker Prize for Wolf Hall last year.  Time flies! ;D  Have you read it?

Good job, Frybabe; I would never have gotten it, partly because the way I thought Mantel's name was spelled is too far off.
