BLANKO

Welcome to our newest brain teaser

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, not both.  One letter is supplied.  More information may be given, but isn't required.

Example:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess--the title (or author) if they can, or a letter.  One guess between appearances of the Challenger for each contestant.

At  the end of the day, or more often if the Challenger wants, the Challenger will add one or more of the letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.  (Note that the original supplied letter might also appear elsewhere.)

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

Yes...yes to both of you, an I and two D's.
Off for the evening and fully expect to come in in the morning and see that one of you figured it out.  It's by a Canadian author...maybe none of you here has read it...but it's fun going at it letter by letter...

Oh, good grief.

The Deptford Trilogy, by Robertson Davies

Indeed, I've read it, several times.  I recommend it highly.

WINNER WINNER WINNER

Quite right, Frybabe.  Did anyone else have to read it for school?  The main character, Philip Nolan, is tried for treason (along with Aaron Burr).  At his sentencing, he wishes he may never hear of the United States again, and the judge grants his wish.  He is kept prisoner on Navy ships, being transferred to keep him at sea, and the sailors are under orders never to tell him anything about the US.  Over the years he becomes deeply patriotic, and on his deathbed a compassionate sailor fills him in on all that has happened.  Even at the time I thought it was pretty corny, though I also liked it.  I bet no one reads it now.

I remember reading it, and for a long time, thought it was a true story. Wouldn't be surprised if it isn't read anymore.

I read that when the book came out most readers thought it was true.  Apparently Hale took great pains to put in a lot of accurate facts and background to make it convincing.
