BLANKO

Welcome to our newest brain teaser

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, not both.  One letter is supplied.  More information may be given, but isn't required.

Example:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess--the title (or author) if they can, or a letter.  One guess between appearances of the Challenger for each contestant.

At  the end of the day, or more often if the Challenger wants, the Challenger will add one or more of the letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.  (Note that the original supplied letter might also appear elsewhere.)

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

WINNER WINNER WINNER

Guess I shouldn't have been so welcoming.  Eagle eye JoanP strikes again.

Don, are these books as widely read by Canadian children as here?  They're actually a very good description of the pioneering experience.

Hi Don, welcome.  I was thinking JOanP might have put up a Canadian author in your honor, but I can't think of any that end in E.

How about a "J"

Oops, are we doing author or title?

Sorry Don. I wasn't thinking Canadian, happy as I am to have you play with us!  This is a book title, Pedln - its author is British and there are no J's...

This is fiction - British - the 60's ...you probably have never heard of the title, though will recognize the very famous author - :D  ( I would have said I never heard of the title either, but there sits the book on my shelf - with notes in my own handwriting scribbled in pencil in the front!)

Sorry, Pedln...no "W" - but Jane gets the O's - THREE OF THEM.

  -  O  N S  I  -  N  O  -         -  -  I  -  O  T  E

Letters guessed: J, T, E, N, S, A, I, W, O

Letters guessed: J, T, E, N, S, A, I, W, O

You got it...Graham Greene.  I'm just going to have to read it again!  Has anyone here read it?  Has anyone read Graham Greene?  You're it, Pat!

I've read The Third Man and Travels With my Aunt, but nothing else.  Monsignor Quixote sounds amusing from the description.

I got the publication date wrong - this was one of Greene's later works, published in the early 80's.  I remember reading (and loving) The Heart of the Matter, The End of the Affair...
Here's the premise of Monsignor Quixote...I think I'll read it this evening...it isn't very long.
"The title character of Monsignor Quixote is a village priest, elevated to the rank of monsignor through a clerical error, who travels to Madrid accompanied by his best friend, Sancho, the Communist ex-mayor of the village, in Greene's lighthearted variation on Cervantes."
