Very nice, Pat. George enjoyed it too. I was especially pleased to see a P-61, Black Widow there. The SR-71 was bigger than I expected, but the docent explained it when he said that when the Air Force got this particular plane from the CIA they extended it's length to, I believe he said to accommodate a second person. Since it was a guided tour, we skipped some things I would have liked to see and spend some time with.
The docent took a few of us who were interested back to the restoration area. I asked about Silver Hill and found out it still is in service but that the Smithsonian hopes to eventually move all restoration to the new facility, funding permitting. I have a signed copy of a book about the Silver Hill facility but never been there.
The tour ended an hour before we were to leave, but by then George and I were more interesting in finding a place to sit and rest our feet. I was quite happy to be able to move around and see the exhibits without being in a pressing, moving crowd like my last trip (eons ago) to the museum downtown.
