Good work, Marj. Has anyone else read the book? The author, Michael Chwe, is a political science professor at UCLA. He had never touched Austen's books until 8 years ago he watched the movie Clueless, based on Emma, with his children. He was amazed at the amount of game-type manipulation, and started in to read the novels. He came out of it convinced that it's not simply the case that you can analyze the books using game theory; Jane Austen is the unacknowledged founder of the discipline. He proceeds to a lengthy analysis of various principles, copiously illustrated by examples from the books.
It's a book for Austen nuts like me. If you haven't read all the books you will be lost, because there are many quick examples on each page, told with the assumption that you know the players. So far, I'm not totally convinced, but I'm having fun.
