Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title.   They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only  one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new challenger.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

Good Luck !!

Odd thing. I had never heard of Zora Neale Hurston until I ran across her works and decided to use her for this quiz. Today I discovered someone requested two of her books from our library. First, I was pleased that we have copies at our branch, and second, I had to have my counterpart check to see if I had accidentally requested them instead of putting them on my library wish list. Nope, wasn't me. Spooky, huh.

I was surprised that no one has requested any Maya Angelou books yet. Well, it's early yet.

Actually I would guess the third word has to be "in" since O has been used, therefore the title must be THE FAULT IN OUR STARS?

I just looked at my library online and could hardly believe my eyes --50 on the waiting list for this book which is listed as being for Young Adults.  I think I'll pass (LOL).  Having recovered from breast cancer, I avoid the topic in books.  Plus I rarely read anything labeled "romance."    Good one, Frybabe.  That took us a long time to figure out that puzzle!

I may be the only one to have read Hurston: "Their Eyes ---". If you want to be depressed, that's the book for you.

MARJ: I know exactly what you mean! When I had breast cancer (many years ago) my friends kept saying "Oh, I know a book you have to read! " After trying a few, I would say "As long as it's not about someone dying gracefully: that's the LAST  thing I want to read" and they would blush and say "Oh, never mind."

You've got that right, Joan.  No books about terminal illnesses or set in hospitals.  I won't watch the TV series House for that reason.

I'm glad you're okay now.

Gee, I just have to do this.

John Steinbeck's To a God Unknown. Now I have another book to find for my TBR pile. Man's relationship to the land and the nature of belief. Sounds like a very thought provoking book.

Frybabe is THE WINNER!!

Yes it is a thought-provoking book, Frybabe.  One of the first books he wrote. From my notes,  an Amazon reader said it was "Steinbeck's disturbing treatment of spirituality, superstition and the power of faith.  A story that will stick to the ribs of the thoughtful reader."  I agree with that.  I bought the book and planned to read it again, but wouldn't you know, I haven't done so.  It's not a long book, less than 200 pp.  I think I'll get it out and re-read it.  I've got Picnic at Hanging Rock on my table ready to reread. and I just found another book I want to reread that you probably never heard of and might like.  I'll make it into a Blanko puzzle sometime.

Speaking of Steinbeck, if you ever get to California, be sure to go see the Steinbeck Museum in Salinas, CA (near Monterey).  Wonderful.  There is a little section devoted to each of his books. They even have the truck (or a duplicate) he drove across the U.S. told in his Travels with Charley (I loved that book).  I always say if one hasn't read Steinbeck, after visiting the museum they will run out a get one of his books.
