Oh yes.  WAR OF THE WHALES; A TRUE STORY

Yes, Frybabe, it does sound interesting.  Several people have sent me emails asking me to sign a petition to stop those signals which are so detrimental to whales.

Thanks for the links.  I just put the book on hold at my library where it is on order.  I'm 7th on the hold list.

I'm behind, and just saw the "War of the Whales" material. The Pacific grey whales that they are trying to save migrate up the coast, and pass very close to land at one of my favorite places, Point Vicente, California, near where I live. There is a post there of the citation society, where, during migration season, they count the numbers each year to monitor the health of the species. I have been there many times, and seen the whales. This year they seem to be doing well.

I go on whale watching trips whenever I get a chance. I have yet to get close to a grey whale, but I have to blue whales and fin whales. (not to pet them, unfortunately, but it is still an amazing experience!).

The tendency of blue whales to come lose to boats is wonderful for whale watchers, but not for them. They hang out in shipping lanes, where they cause accidents.

Hey, you took out my Is.

I can see that if I want to get married again I should tie the knot at Point Vicente. ;D  It's a wonderful place, radiating peace and good feeling.

Death Without Interruptions

You know, I have on occasion wished that no one would have to die, at least for one day. But then I always follow that line of thought with being concerned that if that did happen, many people who are suffering would be forced to suffer one more day. I remember my Dad, who wondered why God was taking so long to allow him to go. I never had an answer to that. I suspect that Saramago's book would be at once interesting and painful at the same time.
