Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess the title or author (if it's a challenge on an author's name)  and post their answer.  If they can, the solve the entire answer. If not, they  can also suggest one of the title words or  a letter to fill in one of the blanks. One guess per "day" (between appearances of the Challenger) for each contestant.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved, the Challenger will then add only  one of the suggested letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

My challenge would be:

Title of a book--Three words--Biography of a brave woman's experience

in the 19th century.

  --I--  ---  --------

Hope this is posted right.

I tried to make the "dashes" larger but didn't succeed as you can see.

It's about 7:15 p.m. here on the east coast and I see no further additions, so I'll check in again
tomorrow whenever I get a chance as our Latin class allows.  Fran

P.S. I also now realize that I shouldn't add any letters until the end of the day. :)

The brave woman must be Amelia Earhardt?

How about an "S"?

Seeing that it is the end of the week , I probably should complete the puzzle. With all the books

that I am fortunate to have at home, I probably should have picked something more familiar.

This is a book by Sally Denton written  in 2005. It is the biography of Jean Rio. It is based on her

diary, and her adventure that was brilliantly depicted by Jean's great-great granddaughter

The title of the book is Faith and Betrayal. :) I enjoy looking in on "Blanko." It

seems to be not only fun, but interesting and quite challenging.  Fran

Fran, do take another turn.  I'll admit that was hard, not exactly a household titie  ::) ,

but your clues sent me off looking at  Utah history, and if I had more time, I'd really find that enjoyable.

In view of the Pym books that some of use have been reading, I thought I'd puy up a different attitude.  Yay for you, Jean Rio.

Quote
In 1864 I married Mr. Edward Pearce, I had been a widow 15 years, my children all married, and I felt I had the right to decide for myself, in a matter than only concerned myself. I hoped that my old age would be cheered by his companionsip that I should no longer be alone. But it was not to be; he only lived six months. . .

I hope Jean Rio's last six months were cheered by her marriage...

Fran seems to be off for a while...perhaps we should start another?

I think it was your clue about it being recently translated that gave me the title....

Here's an easy one that everyone knows... fiction - a classic.

What's this about a new day and two clues ??  ... I only started it less than 24 hours ago ....

JoanP wants a T and another clue - sorry no T in this title but you can have another clue -

1. It's fiction and a classic
2. They made a movie of it in 1980s -it had an all star cast and was    hugely successful.

WINNER !!   WINNER !!

Sorry I messed up - I knew someone would get it very quickly once they had the the cadence of the two unmistakable A's

We watched the film a few nights ago -It was made in 1985 and stands up very well. The cast was a dream - Maggie Smith, Helene Bonham-Carter, Daniel Day-Lewis, Denholm Elliot, Judy Dench et al  - couldn't fault the Victorian settings or the Forster storyline either....

So, JoanP is now IT

Room with a View was a real winner, wasn't it, Gum?

All right - I may not get in here until Friday, but this is a work by  an author talked about recently here -  and from time to time we've considered discussing this one.  Oh - that's another clue - the author's  a MAN-
