Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess the title or author (if it's a challenge on an author's name)  and post their answer.  If they can, the solve the entire answer. If not, they  can also suggest one of the title words or  a letter to fill in one of the blanks. One guess per "day" (between appearances of the Challenger) for each contestant.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved, the Challenger will then add only  one of the suggested letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

I thought the short version of the title would be much more familiar. In fact, I didn't know there was more to the title until I looked something up about the author.

Would it help if I told you it is a volume of short stories? Some very, very famous.

Are you sure you all don't know this one? You definitely know two of the stories. One has been made into numerous movies, the other I am almost positive I saw a cartoon rendition of when I was young. Both have been done on stage, and one was made into an operetta. Think Hudson Valley.

Yes, yes, yes!

The full title is The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. Washington Irving wrote several volumes under the name of Geoffrey Crayon. I think, all together, he used five pseudonyms plus his own name.

Tomorrow I am off to a birthday party. So, in case I don't get a chance, have a Merry Christmas.

3 feet of snow in New Jersey have postponed trip north to see my sibs.  Youngest grandson in North Caroline hospitalized with Croup since Christmas morning...

Sorry to hear that your grandson has Croup. Hope he is well enough to go home soon.

Looks like you got it.  Oddly, that is not one I've read. I don't think I have ever seen the movie either.

It is still blowing here. I was surprised that there wasn't any snow on the ground at all when I woke this morning. George said he got some light snow, and he is just across the river from me.

Happy New Year, everyone!  2011 - already!
Our family is finally celebrating Christmas down here in NC today!  The croup is history and everyone is eager to finally make merry.

My nine year old granddaughter is suggesting this title - Fiction, is the only clue - plus the fact that Lindsay is recommending it...

What spoke to me at that age were Nancy Drew mysteries and horse stories like Black Beauty. There were others, but these two were the main areas. Still thinking on this.

Hi Deems 2 - good to see you here again.

I think you're right - I kept thinking Anna of ?? ... and of course the Avonlea wouldn't come because I had Anna and not Anne.... the rhythm was all wrong.

Deems2, I actually never heard of Anne of Avonlea until about five years ago. I just looked it up and found that it is a sequel toAnne of Green Gables which I had heard of but never read. There appear to be eight books about Anne altogether.

Deems2 is baaack!  Yes, you guessed it!  I was quite amazed that my voracious reader was into those Anne books...that she read beyond the first one.  She told me that she couldn't stop after Anne of Green Gables...

But I really didn't think you'd get it quite so soon...
Deems2 - you're up.  Happy New Year to you!

And that was an excellent choice, Lindsay.  Not too easy, but not impossible either.  I think you must be a really good reader for  your age.

Happy New Year everyone!

I loved the Anne books.  My mother and I read them when I was quite young.  We had hard cover versions, a little water stained, no dust jackets.  I think they had been my mother's books when she was quite young.  It is wonderful that Anne (with an e) is still being read (and loved).  YAY Lindsay!

Now to come up with a book.  Yikes!  (I am deep in the throws of Little Bee and finding it hard to think of anything else.)  I will get a title up first thing in the morning...
