Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title.   They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only  one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new challenger.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

Good Luck !!

Maybe an S?

There is an R.  This is a novel inspired by a real event that took place in a city besieged by war.

The Cellist of Sarajevo

Have you read the book Pedln? It sounds fascinating. It is going on my wish list so it is bookmarked for January with another purchase I need to make. It is actually less expensive to buy the hardback than the Kindle edition.

WINNER!!  WINNER!!  WINNER!!

Congratulations, Frybabe.  I haven't read it yet, but it's one that I've read about, and would like to read. It does sound fascinating, as you say, and I know so little about the setting and events that took place at that time.

I'm right in the middle of watching 5 Days of War, a film about two reporters in Georgia when the Russians invaded.  In the overall picture of things, this is probably considered a blip on the screen, but the devastation and heartbreak and horrible things that happened to people through no doing of their own is overwhelming.  And from what I've read about it, I think I'd feel the same about the events of this book.

Sounds like an interesting book.  Is it about music? War? Both?

Joan K's "A's" clinched it - Debbie Macomber's Call Me Mrs. Miracle...?

We have a WINNER!

I had a feeling you had guessed. It seems to me that Debbie Macomber has been mentioned several times in discussions. Mrs. Miracle was Hallmark Channel's number one watched movie in 2009 according to the reviews.

A good one, Fry!

OK, here's a clue on the next challenge.  It was a gift - I haven't read it yet.  It's new.  I think it's non-fiction.

There are sure a lot of 5-letter words that begin with G.

How about a T?

If there is another A in there, it could be Catherine the Great.

Oh yeah - Frybabe has it.  Have you read it?  I have so many books piling up and now the library informs me that Julian Barnes book is ready to be picked up.  I've been on the list for ages!

No I haven't JoanP. I have yet to read Massies' Peter the Great which has been on my shelf for years.

Here is a book first published shortly before WWII, non-fiction.

Frybabe, you're supposed to give us one letter in your clue.  It's the only time you can give only one letter, even if there are more of the same.

GOOD JOB getting Catherine the Great from so few clues.  She was an interesting  person; I should read something more about her.

I must say, it's not on my TBR list.  That last word could only be WORDS or LORDS, to my way of thinking.  Then there had to be a vowel before that R up there.  I was thinking TYRANTS because we just had something in Latin about a tyrannus.  Anyway, it all checked out in Amazon, but I've never heard of the book before.

Will have something up tomorrow.

I've never read it either, Pedln, but I have heard of it before what with my interest in reading books about books, word origins, printing/publishing, libraries, and the like.
