Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger poses and indicates either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

The Contestants guess the title or author and post their answer; if they can, the solve the entire title.   They can also suggest another letter to fill in one of the blanks.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved,
the Challenger then must add only  one of the suggested letters the contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new challenger.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

Good Luck !!

I think I spot at least one more S.

It broke my heart when Lance Armstrong was "outed". As a cancer survivor, he was a role model for me. That's one of the tragedies of this drugging. We can't even have heroes any more.

Agreed, JoanK. Never having read a bio about him, I was under the distinct impression (from an article - local news?) that he was from the Lancaster, PA area. What a shock I just got to see that Wikipedia says he is a Texan, no mention of PA anywhere that I could see. One of those who wanted to believe him when he said he didn't dope, I was also greatly disappointed when the evidence continued to mount up and when he finally admitted to it.

I was a big follower of the Tour de France until more and more doping charges surfaced.  All the people you had been rooting for turned into cheats.  Armstrong was the last straw, but I'd already stopped following it.  It seems to have been so pervasive that you either had to dope or resign yourself to never getting anywhere.

I thought the last word was Fountain, until Pat said there were no F's.  So....   I've never read The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann, (nor anything else by Mann).  Have you, Pat, or any others?

I read Buddenbrooks many years ago, and liked it a lot, but that's it.  Several times I've tried to read Confessions of Felix Krull, Confidence Man, but I bog down pretty rapidly, because I can't stand Krull, and since he's the narrator, you're inside his head (or maybe not, given what he's like, you're seeing what he wants you to).

I was hoping that last word would confuse people, but it didn't slow you down.

I read his short stories years ago and loved them. But I tried to reread them recently, and they were too dense for me. It takes 10 minutes to figure out a sentence.

I shudder to think how dense they must be in German.  Bob read Buddenbrooks in German, and found that he could get most of it, but there were occasional passages that baffled him completely.  When he looked at our English translation, which is what I read, those parts were missing.  Some years later, a new translation came out, and the reviews pointed out that the previous translation had left out a number of passages that were in a vulgar colloquial dialect, or had crudities the translator didn't like.  Mystery solved.

Well, maybe I'll read one of them one day.

Meanwhile....  new puzzle:

Fiction.  Per Publishers Weekly review, with which I agree:  "A remarkable dark comedy... the characters are delightfully eccentric, the wit delightfully droll, and the prose simply delightful. But for all its charm, this is a serious book."
