Welcome to our newest brain teaser: BLANKO

The rules are simple:

The Challenger posts  either a title or the name of an author, but not both.

Ex:

Title of Book: three words, a prize winning novel:

   ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ T    __ ___   ___ ___ ___ ___

What is it?

The Contestants guess the title or author (if it's a challenge on an author's name)  and post their answer.  If they can, the solve the entire answer. If not, they  can also suggest one of the title words or  a letter to fill in one of the blanks. One guess per "day" (between appearances of the Challenger) for each contestant.

At  the end of the day if the puzzle is not solved, the Challenger will then add only  one of the suggested letters the Contestants have suggested, everywhere it appears.

The winner becomes the new Challenger.

Good Luck !!

What JoanP?  There is more than one letter revealed and we don't have your answer yet! ;)  This R should help.  And another clue.

I'll bet there are two O's...   :D

Can it be a young Cormac McCarthy work?  Blood Meridian?

WINNER!  WINNER!  WINNER!

There you go, JoanP.  I was beginning to worry.   :D
(Excellent guess on the O's, PatH.)

This is a great book if you can handle its creepiness.  All the Pretty Horses, it is not.

Congratulations, JoanP, especially for figuring out Blood. I could get the Meridian part, but the only thing that came to mind was Blue Meridian -- the search for ther great white shark.

That was a toughie, deems2.

That was a good one, deems2!  Cormac McCarthy just keeps on going...

OK, this one I bet you never read - probably never heard of.  You'll just have to guess the letters and then the words to arrive at the title.  I've got a friend with only months to live.  She told me about this book that soothed her.  Of course, I had to find it, read it and see what gave her such comfort.
I'm half way through the book, and find it absorbing.  Will keep reading, while you guess the letters...

I'll have to get some Potash for next year then.  Thanks, Gum.  It is so sad when I see the green fronds, but  no stem, no bud.  Now to remember the Potash...

Ok - back to the game - in the meantime, I can read the remaining chapters of the book...

There is no "M" - and no, the first word is not Academics.  (Now that you have the first letter, you should get this very soon....

winner!  winner!   winner!  Congratulations, deems2!

Have you heard of this book, deems2?  My college room-mate received a terrible prognosis three weeks ago.  She has remained amazingly calm, though her children are in a frenzy, trying to  find cures, test programs, etc.  while her time grows shorter.  She had told me how this book calms her, prepares her for what lies ahead.  So I just had to go and read the book to understand where she is in all this.  I can see how it has helped her.

Awakening the Buddha Within - you asked if it is a good book.  I think my friend, who is preparing herself the best she can, this is helping her in ways that the psychiatrist is not able to.  I read the book mainly - so that I could understand her thinking.  I don't think it is anything I would read for my own enjoyment or spiritual help.

I gather this is fiction - do I see an "F"?

JoanP and Gumtree will have to duke it out.  They did the hard work.  I loved that book, and remember when one of our English teachers recommended it to me.  Garp was the only other John Irving I had read at the time.  Owen Meany is one of my all-time favorites.  Enjoyed its movie, too -- Simon Birch, but it wasn't near as good as the book.  And really didn't get much attention.
