Welcome, Judy. It's great that you've found and joined us. That's wonderful that you teach literature and writing to high school students.

I live in northern California. The weather is changing week by week. A few weeks ago we had a lot of rain. Last week we were close to 100 degrees and today we're in the 60s!

Hmmm... try this:

LOG OUT as puddingyes above.  LogOUT is the last button in the blue tool bar above these messages.

It should then tell you that you're a GUEST.

THEN log in as Elizabeth 78 with the password that I sent you.

Let's see if that will work.

That worked indeed, Jane.  I am now being recognized as elizabeth 78--although come to think of it I signed in with elizabethinhayfork@yahoo as my i.d.  But, however, the computer saw through my senior moment of imbecility and greeted me as elizabeth 78.  Thank you so much.

Thank you for your kind welcomes, my book-loving friends.

I think I'll try going along with the Night Villa discussion; I ordered a used copy from Amazon.

I'm in the process of moving to a studio apartment built atop my#5 son's garage.  Can you imagine the stuff I'm getting rid of?  I did give away my big sofa and my big bookcase.  I decided to give all the books away because I get my books now on my ipod, but found there were some books I could not part with--but kept it under 100.

I did give away all my dvd's however since I belong to Netflix.  How incredible the many changes in our culture; I'm glad I lived this long to see it.

What a big change in your life, elizabeth. I am smiling when you said that you couldn't bear to give all of your books away... but you kept it under 100. That's probably a lot for some people :-)

We also have many books also and it would be very difficult to part with them. It's probably a great idea to use an ipod or kindle and a service such as Netflx so there is less of a temptation to accumulate.

Thanks for the mention of Wanting, and the Dicken's connection. As you probably noticed we'll be discussing The Mystery of Edwin Drood and The Last Dickens soon.

It's a pleasure to rediscover the old crowd.  Paul Theroux says it all in his latest travel book:
""I think most serious and omnivorous readers are alike -- intense in their dedication to the word, quiet-minded, but relieved and eagerly talkative when they meet other readers and kindred spirits. If you have gotten this far [p453] in the book, you are just such a singular person."

A zanybooks novel, My War just received a rave review:

If you'd like to receive a paperback of one of our other novels for review purposes, write us at support@zanybooks.com and we'll send you descriptions of the novels for you to choose among.

Welcome, JeanClark, it's great to have you here.

If you are interested in mysteries and Sci-Fi, you'll be glad to know that we have specific discussions for each of those genres where we share comments on what we're reading and get good ideas of new titles we might like.

The Mstery discussion is here:

http://seniorlearn.org/forum/index.php?board=33.0

and the Sci-fi/Fantasy discussion is here:

http://seniorlearn.org/forum/index.php?board=31.0

When you use one of these links you'll get to a discussion title with page numbers, and you can go to the last number to come in on the last page of the discussion.  See you there.

Salvete omnes.

My name is Keith from the UK and once again I have enrolled  for the Latin Course under the watchfull eye of our 'magister' Ginny. I do not do a lot of reading but I am well into the Clive Cussler series. Has anyone read his books and if so what are your opinions? I am attracted towards the Lindsey Davis books[first time I have heard about her] as I am very interested in historical novels particularly those concerning the English civil war.

I am new to seniornet and am thrilled to be taking Latin.  The last time I attempted it I worked very very hard for several weeks and thought I was retarded --until the teacher told me all the other class members had taken Latin in high school for 3 years and were just finishing up in their first year in college.  i put my book away and now, years later, plan to master the bloody thing.  I am here in hot Florida looking after my 95-year old mother (with the help of aides) and have a moderate amount of time to devote to this.  Have never done a course online.

Welcome Natasha,

We are happy to see you here on Seniorlearn .  We are not SeniorNet although most of us started out on SeniorNet but Seniornet did away with the message boards. As a result, Ginny Anderson, who teaches the Latin decided to open this website and call it SeniorLearn.  She does the Latin here and there are also book discussions on this site.

If you enjoy reading then you might like to join our book discussions also.  We would be happy to have you join right in the discussions. I hope that you will drop by some of them and post so that everyone can get to know you. Just click on
http://seniorlearn.org/forum/index.php?topic=513.msg32888#new
to get to the library where we gather to talk about the books that we are reading.  You will be welcome there and also in the discussions of specific books.

Hi, Natasha,
In addition to book discussions link, Joan gave you, please come to the LATIN Practice Room and introduce yourself.  You should have the directions in the emails I've sent you, but in case you've mislaid them, please go to:

 Latin 101a ~ Click here for all Latin 101a areas --  http://seniorlearn.org/forum/index.php?board=68.0

and bookmark that.  That's where you'll find the Practice Room where you can catch up with your classmates and where you'll also see the Classroom and the Lessons & Assignments area.

You can see it only because you're enrolled in Latin.

Please scroll down the menu page here and you'll find it...or use the link:

Greetings to old and new friends.  Hi Keith, glad to see you back again.  I am starting Latin 102 today and looking forward to it.  Like Keith, I live in the UK, in a small village on the edge of the New Forest.  I have managed to read a fair amount this summer, mainly autobiographies.  I still have a pile of 'must reads' waiting, trouble is, the pile seems to get larger each week.
Bye for now.

Hey, Pete, come and chat with us about what you're reading, in the Library or elsewhere, or join our discussions.  Tomorrow we start talking about Dickens' "Edwin Drood", which I am finding quite interesting.
