Welcome Serafina!  We're glad you're here.  I love your fair city, especially your wonderful library downtown, and the Third Place Book Stores.

Hi and welcome from Australia, Serafina.  Lovely name, btw :)   An angelic name?

Hello, everyone.  I'm 57, and have just fulfilled one of my lifelong dreams...  I just graduated from UCLA with my BA in History, earning college honors, summa cum laude, and highest honors in history.  I start a masters program in the fall at Claremont Graduate University.  They say there are no second acts in American lives...  well, they are wrong, and I think I'm not alone in proving that --  I have the feeling that many of the people in this group can say the same.  So here's to all of us!!!

I've enrolled in the Latin 101 class, and look forward to seeing you there.

Welcome, Mary. My congratulations on all that you've accomplished and your plans for the future. I'm glad that you've joined us. Perhaps you'll have time to join some of our book discussions too. We'll be talking about "Berlin 1961" by Frederick Kempe in September. The place to indicate your interest is at http://seniorlearn.org/forum/index.php?topic=2389.0. The book offers "fascinating history, dramatic with new research into documents never before explored."

Welcome, Mary.  My daughter got a Master's degree in Economics at Claremont, so I can picture the beautiful campus very well.  She had a very good experience, with excellent teachers.

Hi, Mary...

I've just emailed you the information about the Latin Class and the link to the Orientation Room where I ask all Latin 101 students who've enrolled to post.  That is a discussion open ONLY to those who've registered for Latin 101.  Please look for the email and keep the link handy.

Hello MaryCopleland and welcome!

And congratulations on your fabulous achievements, I really admire you for doing all of that.  I am not going to start the Latin this year as I have been involved in a very protracted house move that is just now reaching its culmination, but I am thinking of taking an OU course, and you have encouraged me to get on and enrol for it.

Best wishes with your Masters,

Rosemary

Hi everyone.  I’m a retired Federal Government worker from Winchester, VA.  I actually joined the SeniorLearn Discussions several years ago, but only posted a couple times.  Recently, I’ve started reading many of the book discussions so I think it’s time to introduce myself.  I love to read and all things bookish.  I’ve enjoyed reading all of your postings for some time now, so thought it might be time to join in.

Hello Carol, and welcome!

My SIL lives near Winchester, UK, but I imagine that the two places are quite different.  Seeing any Virginia address reminds me of The Waltons and their blue ridge mountians - it must be a beautiful area to live in.

Hello, all.

I just registered today, and I'm looking forward to discussions.  I am more of a reader/lurker than a talker.

I hope that is allowed!

I live in upper East Tennessee, and we are having an early spring with pear trees in full bloom - lovely.

Will be seeing you in the groups.

Hello to all...
I'm a senior who is also a Senior undergraduate at one of the California State Universities. My major is Spanish with a minor in Latin American Studies. In the Fall I begin my Masters at New Mexico State (Online).  My goal is to become a professor of Spanish.  Reading and studying is the light of my life.  I hope that by teaching Spanish I might open up communication between different ethnic groups, thereby removing much of the prejudice that sadly exists.  Since Latin is the foundation of Spanish and other Latin American languages, I have come to the conclusion that I need more exposure to it. Thus, I plan on enrolling in the Fall in Latin 101.
I'm an old Hippie (as my username reflects) and live near Yosemite National Park in Califronia.  My husband and I are both of Scottish-Irish geneology...He's my Viking warrior!  I truly look forward to getting to know many of you.

Welcome, La Jipita!!  We're delighted you've found us.  I believe you and I have corresponded about the Latin class for fall.

I'm delighted you've registered a username and are working your way around the site.  It'll make our Latin "orientation" near the time your classes start a LOT easier!!

Be sure to check out the Classics Bulletin Board, located further down on your index page.

I've just found the site. I am an Australian expat living in Prague - until late last year I was living in the UAE. I am embarking on the adventure of becoming a freelance writer. My first connections in Prague have been through a reading group and the coordinator headed us toward this site. Most of the group aren't seniors, but I am over 50. I've spent a large part of my working life in human resource development - learning and lifelong learning are dear to my heart. I enjoy the challenge of new things and if things settle down soon, will seriously contemplate signing up to learn Latin. Though learning Czech has to be my next priority.

Looking forward to learning ...

Welcome, Dalice!

We are delighted to see you here, and your coordinator is really on the ball. Lifelong learning is our "thing," and you'll be in great company.

You would love the Latin classes,  and we've got great book discussions here, too, and you can teach us Czech at the same time! :)   We have  Australians here, too,  it's an international community, but nobody that I know of  from Prague, so you'd be our first!

You don't have to be over 50 to take our classes,  many of our students are young, some are college students, but we're really not set up to do high school supplementary courses for credit, that's why we focus on adults: we've all ages here.

We also have some aspiring writers. I wish you all the best, many really great writers started after 50, how exciting.

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Make yourself at home!

Welcome, Dalice.  We are glad to have you here.  I just have to ask how your instructor in Prague knew about us??  Are we famous or infamous?Tee hee!  Hope you enjoy this site as much as our members seem to.

We have an Authors Corner you might want to peek into.  We haven't really heard from many authors though.  So, just right in and say hello and tell us about the book you want to write.  Here's a link:  http://seniorlearn.org/forum/index.php?board=108.0

Hi. Thanks for your wonderful forum.  I am a public librarian and one of our book club members mentioned SeniorLearn at our last meeting. We were able to find some thought-provoking questions to use in our discussion of The Elegance of the Hedgehog.

emassee, Welcome!  Didn't you love The Elegance of the Hedgehog?  So happy to hear that you found our discussion helpful to your own group's discussion.  Every month we discuss another book in depth - as we did the Hedgehog.

Next up - three Greek plays - starting with Antigone.  You might look in at the Classics Club's - Women in Greek Drama

We are also in the process of selecting a June discussion title.  You can jump right in that discussion to see the nominated titles - or to add one of your own, if you like!  This is going on right now in the  Suggestion Box
