I watched the new Conclave, Barbara, with Ralph Fiennes. I like him and his acting and was glad to see Stanley Tucci there as well. I enjoyed the movie and found it interesting. There is a secret revealed at the end, which to me did not form part of the plotline, but other than that...that's about it?
How is Oscar today, Frybabe?
Lovely flowers, BellaMarie, I've got some, too, despite Hurricane Helene making one side swipe at the house as it tore through, completely tearing down the beautiful wrought iron arch and gate covered with hundreds of New Dawn roses. The kids got the structure back up, the rose cut back to about 6 feet, and now we have to do something about securing it. Somehow. It's very heavy. Some of the delivery people insist on continuing to try to get through it, despite yellow caution tape, so finally I put one of the iron chairs in behind it to block the gate from opening. That's all I need, to have it fall on somebody.
BUT the biggest surprise is the little garden next to it. It's been on its own due to several factors and now is just a riot of color. I took some photos of it last night when we rode around on the golf cart, which we've taken to doing of an evening, (there's a lot to see) and hope to put one in, it's...well to me, who has not touched it in a year, kind of breathtaking.
Cromwell! My gosh I am with you, Barbara. I don't have a CLUE as to your excellent questions. So MUCH unexplained but I think it will be.
1. Like you, I did not understand the "promotion" at all? Not at all. I thought it was a fake, that Cromwell was trying to tell the two boys everything is OK, you're promoted to Privy Seal, I get to relax in the country. I didn't believe it, I don't believe it, and I don't think HE does, so what on earth? He wishes his father could see him now? HUH? And LOOK how that episode ended! HUH?
2. Likewise, what you just brought up? Don't understand IT, either, at all. Suffolk is the only one I can now identify , with the yellow beard? You're asking very good questions. I have no earthly idea. I am about to watch it again but wanted to put what I DO know here now.
----Page 332 of the Mirror and the Light book: Cromwell: "The king wishes to be known as Henry, Mirror of Justice."
----Page 338: "He looks up. The room is empty except for those who do not count. At such moments the phantom Wolsey would walk in, and peer over his shoulder, and tell him what to write. large white hands with their glittering rings heavy on his shoulders."
So here, apparently is where the movie folks got the idea of making Wolsey a ghost?
There's a lot here which is not in the movie to wade through, so I'm going to watch the movie now again and see what I missed the last two times I tried.
